2021-22 COVID-19 Information

The landscape of COVID mitigation and response by the district continues to evolve as new information is shared by CDC, PA Department of Health and the Montgomery County Office of Public Health. The district's goal is to maximize the in-person instruction for all the students in the district.

To achieve maximized face to face the district has updated the Health and Safety Plan which outline all district mitigation efforts and response. Please review our recent plan: Health & Safety Plan 2021-22 (Board approved on 3/10/22).

Current COVID Quarantine and Isolation Protocols are outlined below:

What If I am POSITIVE for COVID?

For athletes who test positive and have questions regarding expectations for return to play, please contact athletic director Bobby Kurzweg at rkurzweg@upsd.org.

Definition of Who is a Close Contact?

  • K-12 Students who are less than 3' for 15 minutes or more regardless of masking (Vaccination exemption prevents individual being identified as a Close Contact)
  • Students K-12 who are within 3'-6' for 15 minutes or more AND not wearing a mask (Vaccination exemption prevents individual being identified as a Close Contact/ Universal Masking will prevent this potential)
  • Continual exposure to someone within the household who has tested positive for COVID and cannot isolate away from other household members. (Vaccination exemption prevents individual being identified as a Close Contact)

*Close contact determinations will apply only the high risk settings (cafeteria and extracurricular activities), per the recommendations of MC OPH.

What happens if I am a SCHOOL Close Contact?

The district utilizes the Mask to Stay strategy to address school based close contact. Utilizing the criteria for close contacts as prescribed by the MCOPH, the district will prioritize contact tracing efforts to the cafeteria and in extracurricular environments. If identified as a close contact, the school team will contact each family to discuss next steps.

Other Requirements for MASK to STAY:

  • Individuals are required to receive one antigen test between days 4 through 6 after exposure. If school is not in session on days 4-6, follow guidance for masking. Test can be district provided or at-home.
  • Individuals who participate in MTS are required to complete standard quarantine (as described above) outside of the school setting.
  • Individuals can stay in school and participate in extra-curricular activities through MTS. If masks cannot be worn during rigorous exertion activity, the exposed individual(s) cannot participate until after ten days from exposure.
  • If an individual cannot wear a well-fitted mask at all times during that 10 day time period, or who refuses to test, the exposed individual cannot participate in MTS, and must complete standard quarantine. This will impact those with district approved mask exemptions.
