Summer Reading Rubric
Summer Reading Annotation Rubric
The following rubric will be used to evaluate student annotations, which may be collected and for a formative grade during the first week of English classes.
The entire text is extensively highlighted or underlined with several margin notes on the majority of pages throughout the entire test in addition to shorthand notations. The annotations demonstrate that the student has closely read and considered the text's meaning and analyzed literary elements/devices.
The text it LESS extensively highlighted or underlined. There are some margin notes and/or shorthand markings, the annotations demonstrate a less thorough reading of the work. While both in-text markings and marginal notes are present, it is not clear that student has closely read the entire text.
The text is highlighted or underlined and the student may use shorthand markings, but there are very few marginal notes, or it is impossible to determine how thoroughly the text has been read.
