Classroom Procedures
Please check your child's assignment book nightly for homework as well as important dates and reminders. As students move closer and closer to middle school, we try to foster independence and self motivation, as this is a necessary skill when they make the transition. Students are required to write in their assignments each morning as part of their morning work. Math homework is accessible through the EDM site (check the EDM tab for more info). Spelling homework is given every other week. Students are able to self select their assignments for spelling from the choice board. Word lists are accessible through Spelling City. Other homework and reminders are given on an as needed basis.
If you have any questions about this, please contact me.

Behavior Policies
Individual
We will be using Class Dojo this year as a individual behavior tracker. Your student will be coming home with his or her log in codes for the year. Please sign in each day to check tor classroom updates as well as your child's behavior. If you have any questions regarding their "score" for the day, please let me know and I will be happy to discuss it with you!
Check out the Class Dojo tab for more information!
Whole Class/School
Our class also tracks the class points through Class Dojo. When we reach specific point totals throughout the year, we earn special prizes. We will set goals and pick these prizes together as a class.
Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a web based program which allows teachers to track students’ behaviors (positive AND negative) easily and efficiently. The program is based on points, and students can be given positive points or points can be taken away. Students are able to cash in their points each week for prizes or save up for a larger one! This site allows the student to start each day fresh and ready to succeed!
After students have been added to the system, there is a student access code we will give to each student so that they can log on to the website. On the site, they are able to see how many points they have, which positive behaviors were noted, and which negative behaviors they need to work on.
One of the greatest features of Class Dojo is that it allows us to send parents a “behavior and skills report” every Friday by e-mail. All you need to do is use the parent access code to get signed up.
Layout Element
Positive Behavior (subject to change) Students are able to earn points (values vary) for the following behaviors:
|
- Arguing/Bullying
- Not listening
- Off task
- Talking at inappropriate times
- Being uncooperative (with peers or staff)
- Being unprepared
In our classroom, I use Dojo to communicate with parents. Parents have the ability to message the teacher as well as see the "Class Story." Please feel free to leave comments or feed back on any of the pictures or content posted. Reminders of special events and holidays will be communicated via the class story. Make sure to keep an eye out, some times there are chances to win extra Dojo points by responding to posts!
This year, we will be using a new feature classed the "Portfolio." This feature will allow students to share things with home via the site. Portfolios are only accessible by the family (must be signed up for Dojo) as well as the teacher. Once signed up, parents can leave comments and feedback on their child's work!
Everyday Math
Everyday Math is research based math aligned with the Common Core Standards. It is made up of 8 different Units.
The students focus on the following three areas:
-
Understanding and Fluency with multi-digit multiplication and division.
-
Understanding fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers.
Understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties.
The students will complete lessons daily, working in whole group, small group, partner and independent settings to gain a deeper level of understanding of the taught concepts. Student will have a math journal that will allow them to apply and practice concepts that are taught.
Each student has access to EDM Online which will allow them to access games, the student reference book and videos. The student reference book will serve as a guide to review math concepts and skills.
EDM Online-Click Here to Access the Site
In order to access EDM online the students will need to use their login and pin number. Students coming from Hereford will use the "H" and students from Marlborough will use the "M."

Imagine Math
Students all have access to Imagine Math. This program is access via the students Clever Login. Imagine Math is an online math tutoring program that personalizes student learning with unprecedented levels of differentiation and unlimited access to live, state-credentialed teachers (including Spanish-speaking teachers). Imagine Math is proven to increase math proficiency when students use Imagine Math 2 to 3 times each week or approximately 90 minutes each week.
Your child has been assigned one or more series of lessons — known as ‘pathways’ — based on your child’s grade level. These lessons are aligned to your state’s learning objectives. Your child will complete an initial benchmark test to determine how prepared he or she is for the assigned pathway of lessons. Upon completion of the benchmark test, your child’s pathway may be adjusted to include lessons designed to better prepare him or her for grade-level work.
Your child may complete up to 2 additional benchmark tests throughout the course of the school year. Based on the results of the tests, your child’s pathway may be adjusted to better prepare him or her for grade-level work.
A typical lesson is made up of 6 different parts. Each of the lesson portions are listed below.
