Superintendent Search

At their April 11, 2019 meeting, the UPSD School Board voted unanimously to approve Dr. Allyn Roche as the new Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Roche will replace Dr. Alexis McGloin, who announced earlier in 2019 that she would not seek a renewal to her contract after nearly five years with the district. Dr. Roche begins his role as UPSD Superintendent on July 1, 2019 with a five year contract and a first year salary of $195,000.

“The real draw for me to Upper Perk was the people—the sense of family and the commitment to education,” said Dr. Roche during brief remarks at last night’s Board meeting. “I’m confident that this will be a great fit. I’m proud to join the Upper Perk family, and bring my own family into that Upper Perk family. This is going to be a journey for us all over a long period of time, and I’m excited to get started.”

“I’d like to thank all of the Board members, administrators and members of the staff who have been involved with the Superintendent search process. A lot of time, effort and passion has been invested in finding the right person to fill this role, and I’m pleased with the outcome of the search process,” said Dr. Kerry Drake, president of the UPSD School Board. “Dr. Roche embodied the characteristics we were looking for in a new Superintendent, and on behalf of the Board, I’d like to say how excited we are to have Dr. Roche at Upper Perk.”

Dr. Roche joins UPSD from the Spring-Ford Area School District, where he has served as assistant superintendent since 2011. In his role at Spring-Ford, he was responsible for the direct supervision and evaluation of 10 principals, oversight of all pupil services and special education programs, budget management and planning, organizing district calendars, planning professional development, co-leading Board committees and more.

Prior to his role at Spring-Ford, Dr. Roche was the director of secondary education and professional development in the North Penn School District (2008-2011), principal of Pennbrook Middle School in the North Penn School District (2006-2008), assistant principal of Pennbrook Middle School in the North Penn School District (2004-2006), a science teacher at Pennbrook Middle School in the North Penn School District (2001-2004) and a science teacher at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pa. (1999-2001).

Dr. Roche earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Temple University. He earned his teacher certification in biology and general science, Master of Arts in educational leadership and principal (K-12) certification from Villanova University. His doctorate in educational leadership and PA superintendent letter of eligibility were earned from Lehigh University.

Dr. Roche lives in Quakertown with his wife, Corey, and three children, Cole, Addie and Cooper.
