Math


Grade 4 math is an investigative approach based on the Common Core standards. The Everyday Mathematics series content focuses on procedures, concepts, and applications in eight units which include:

Unit 1 - Place Value; Multidigit Addition and Subtraction
Unit 2 - Multiplication and Geometry
Unit 3 - Fractions and Decimals
Unit 4 - Multidigit Multiplication
Unit 5 - Fractions and Mixed-Number Computation; Measurement
Unit 6 - Division; Angles
Unit 7 - Multiplication of a Fraction by a Whole Number; Measurement
Unit 8 - Fraction Operations; Applications

Reading

Shared Reading – 3 week units

Week 1: Reading strategy and skills check

Week 2: Genre study and written response

Week 3: Reader’s Theater and unit test

Guided Reading – Small, focused groups to reinforce

and practice skills from shared reading

Writer’s Workshop – A variety of writing types,

both formal and informal, along with grammar,

spelling, and word study.

Science

Fourth grade students follow the FOSS science curriculum. There are five topics included in this program. They include:


1. Weather and water
2. Electricity
3. Ideas and Inventions
4. Solar Energy
5. IPM - Integrated Pest Management

Social Studies

Our social studies unit begins with a three week course titled Study Skills. From there students will learn all about Pennsylvania including location, events in history, famous places, people, and products of our state.
